The "Bird King" (烏王 Uō) is the most powerful Emperor Crow and the ruler of Area 3. Its power and absolute lordship over one of the major continents of Gourmet World makes it one of the mighty Eight Kings, the eight most powerful beasts in the world.
Appearance

Being an Emperor Crow, it is a gigantic bird with feathers as black as night. Its size is so great that those beneath it will perceive it as a night sky.
Personality
Not much is known of the Bird King's personality, but being one of the Eight Kings it is likely a fearless entity.

Being one of the Eight Kings, the Bird King is a representative of the Emperor Crow race.
Powers and Abilities
As one of the Eight Kings, the Bird King is considered one of the most powerful creatures in the Gourmet World, and the supreme ruler of the skies.
Due to its ability to spread deadly poison with just a flap of its wings, it is said that all creatures entering the shadow cast by the Bird King will stop thinking and die.[1]
Its true power is shown by being able to create shadows anywhere around its being, even above its own body. The key to this ability is that the Bird King creates a powerful miniature sun of concentrated light energy, which in turn gives creation to shadows. Those who find themselves in these shadows cannot think and are ravaged to non-existence by the energies generated by the Bird King's miniature sun.[2]
Bird King can also shoot Appetite Energy beams out of its beak.[3][4]
Awareness
Aside from its immeasurable strength, what truly makes this mighty creature of the sky as 'king' is their "sensitivity" to nature, much like how small animals can sense predatory threats, changes in the weather, or imminent natural disasters. This allows the Bird King to sense tiny occurrence across the planet which may prove important to its survival, to a far greater extent than even the most keen animals. Even non-natural crises and events can be detected or anticipated by the Bird King, such as its detection of Toriko's rising power following his duel with Starjun. This nearly omniscient power is what has ultimately allowed the Bird King and its descendants to survive countless mass-extinction events which otherwise would have been lethal even to them.[5]

| Emperor Shadow (烏王の影 (エンペラーシャドウ) Enperā Shadō, literally meaning "Bird King's Shadow"): By using its powerful Appetite Energy, the Bird King creates a ball of energy that emits a light so bright that it can be considered as bright as the sun. By emitting the light, the Bird King casts its shadow throughout all directions, preventing opponents from avoiding its shadow.[2] | |||||||||||||||||||
History
AIR Arc
Just after the Four Heavenly Kings, Komatsu, and the Hex Food Beast Knights capture AIR, Heracles takes no chance of missing an opportunity to give birth so she quickly ends the battle between her and Toriko and proceeds to consume the high amounts of fresh air that has blanketed Area 8. After giving birth, the new foal proceeds to travel on the Rainbow Bridges and once more revives the age old tradition of the Herac Response.[6] As the foal lets out its mighty voice to let its presence be known, the Bird King, along with the rest of the Eight Kings, hears the call of the young Herac.[7]
ANOTHER Arc
After Whale King Moon goes on the move, the Bird King senses this and is seen flying over Coco and Tylan, much to their surprise and awe.[8]
After passing Coco and Tylan, the Bird King confronts an enemy. The enemy itself is none other than the part of Neo which landed on Area 3. The Neo part grew wings the instant it saw the Bird King to avoid its shadow.[1] However, the Bird King countered its opponent's defense by creating its own artificial sunlight to cast its shadow onto its opponent, erasing the piece of Neo within the Bird King's shadow.[2]
When Jiro dies, Guinness lets out a howl, calling to the other Eight Kings.[9]
GOD Arc
The Eight Kings respond to Guinness' call by assembling at the battleground in Area 2.[10][11]
Bird King tries to catch CENTER in its Emperor Shadow but is outshined by Neo, which then leaps into the air, enlarges its head, and consumes the left side of Bird King's body. Bird King fires several blasts of Appetite Energy, all of which Neo consumes. Snake King then swallows Neo, saving Bird King.[12]
Trivia
- The Bird King and its race of Emperor Crows appears to be based off the Three-Legged Crow of East Asian mythology, otherwise known as the Sun Crow, giving credence to its ability of creating miniature suns.
