The Drill Bird is an avian creature capable of spinning at high speeds in flight as though it were an airborne drill.
Anatomy[]
Drill Birds are small, green-eyed, purple birds with small bodies about 1 meter in length and they weigh about 15 kilograms. Their orange-colored beaks are long, sharp and slightly hooked and can pierce stone with ease. When attacking they resemble flying purple drills.
Behavior[]
Drill Birds travel in groups and live at high altitudes, as such many can be found living on the gigantic beanstalk in the sky, Sky Plant. They are incredibly hostile and together they will attack anything that gets in the way of their flight path, recklessly throwing themselves at their target without a second thought about their opponent's strength.
Powers and Abilities[]
Drill Birds have the ability to spin their bodies by quickly moving their wings and then are able to propel themselves at high speeds, making them natural airborne projectiles that are difficult to dodge especially in midair. Its beak is very strong, durable and sharp, and when attacking at breakneck speed it can easily pierce and burrow through concrete walls.
As Food[]
Since Drill Birds are active creatures, their meat is low on fat and high in protein, making it a choice food for people on diets or who are looking to build muscle. 100 grams of its meat can fetch a price of 4,500 yen.
History[]
Ozone Herb Arc[]

Drill Birds attack Toriko and Komatsu.
As Toriko and Komatsu scaled the treacherous Sky Plant in order to reach Vegetable Sky and acquire the Ozone Herb for Ichiryu, they were briefly thrown off the plant by hostile Wicked Beanstalks but were able to stay airborne thanks to Toriko's Flying Squirrel Suit. Unfortunately as they were descending to another part of the plant they flew in front of a flock of Drill Birds that immediately attacked them upon spotting them, instantly spinning themselves and cutting through Toriko's suit, forcing Toriko to use his "Flying Knife" on them. However the damage was already done and Toriko was unable to stay airborne, luckily he was able to grab on to a nearby leaf before falling.
Anime and Manga Differences[]
- In the anime their beaks are of a different shape, being a pointed straight forward shape while in the manga the beak appears to be hooked slightly.
