Synopsis[]
Komatsu spends some quality time with Cutler Melk's apprentice, and Toriko delves deeper into the depths of Heavy Hole, where the gravity is intense and the Barbamoths are fierce!
Summary[]
At the workshop's entrance, and while re-assuring Melk on Toriko's safety, Komatsu suddenly got terrified by the sight of the beast in front of him, the Vampire Kong. Melk ordered the beast off and explained that the beast is his and his master's pet, Pochiko, who helps deliver knives to clients. Meanwhile, while jumping down into Heavy Hole, Toriko was ticked off a bit of the fact that Komatsu didn't join him on the journey as he always does; Komatsu stayed behind to get a glimpse of the world's most famed sharpening, head on. And since Komatsu holds his knives dearly as if his own life, Toriko asked Komatsu for one of them as an equivalent to Komatsu himself, as they are a combo. Toriko proceeded with caution as if traveling with Komatsu. "This time, my partner will be this kitchen knife."
Melk explained to Komatsu his interest in knowing which knife belongs to whom, unlike his master, who was interested only in making the knives. He then showed Komatsu the hundred knives he gets per day and Komatsu was honored to be able to see knives like Lulubhu's, Yuuji's, and the Gyoki restaurant's. Melk stated that, like those famous chefs, cutlers also use the sound and sensation to sharpen, and not their eyes. He started sharpening Gyoki restaurant's knife, demonstrating extreme dexterity in the process, that even Komatsu couldn't catch what happened. In Heavy Hole, and after going down a 10,000 meters, Toriko finally starts feeling heavy; nearly double his weight. Toriko sensed lurking creatures and stood in preparation. "Be it a demon or a serpent, come at me from any direction."
A herd of lvl 44 Balbamoths came out from lurking and surrounded Toriko. The gravity slowed down his reactions, making evading the beasts harder than he'd imagined. Toriko then developed a reactive technique in which he predicts the beast's movement and acts accordingly. When surrounded, Toriko thought of defending for the first time, creating a new move, Fork Shield. He then left the beasts and jumped deep down. When Komatsu woke up, Melk was still working, and had some soup ready for Komatsu. Komatsu watched as Melk sharpened more knives. While doing so, Melk explained some of the cutling processes, like how it all starts with supplying raw materials, then blacksmithing... and like how the whetstone he uses, the Gradient Whetstone, is an all-rounder for whetstones. "The First's craftsmanship was nothing like this."Komatsu then noticed what seems to be an open air bath outside the workshop and took a nice bath in it. After fending off some more Balbamoths, Toriko's stamina was finally zapped.
