Synopsis[]
Zebra and Toriko finally reunite with Komatsu, but their troubles are only just beginning. To acquire the Mellow Cola, they must defeat a ferocious Salamander Sphinx, but they have no idea how to kill it!
Summary[]
Zebra’s warning came late, and Komatsu had already encountered the Salamnder Sphinx. Zebra sent a Hoedama their way, but the beast brushed it off. To take a shortcut, Zebra blasted the ground underneath with his Sound Bazooka, making way down to Komatsu. The sound Armor around Komatsu was gone, which shocked Zebra, who thought it was the sphinx’s doing. Zebra demanded a serious fight to death with the beast, with its blood as repairs for drowning out his Hoedama. Sensing Zebra’s seriousness, Toriko asked Komatsu to hurry out of the place. Zebra unleashed a barrage of attacks on the beast (Voice Missile, Voice Cutter, Thunder Noise) and was surprised the beast was still standing its ground; the beast swung its tongue at Zebra, who’s Sound Wall was of no use, leading Toriko to interfere. Recalling what Melk the First told him, and using his smell, Toriko confirmed it: the Cola’s inside the Pyramid’s master, the lvl 92 Salamander Sphinx’s body.
The Sphinx lightly flailed its wrist at them, producing an attack that sent them flying. They released their Intimidation and clashed the beast head-on. Meanwhile, Komatsu discovered that the old book he’s holding is actually a recipe book, and understood the murals on the walls were also part of it. The fight continued, with Toriko and Zebra unleashing attack after the other (Flying Fork, Machine Gun Voice, Leg Knife, Ittou Voice Cutter), with no progress. Toriko saved Zebra another wrist flail with his Fork Shield. They thought its blood was the Cola, yet Komatsu mentioned that according to his visual understanding of the book’s pictures and sentences, it’s its tears. Toriko saw some beast pictures in the book, and recalled when he was replenishing calories with Zebra; the beasts they killed were sometimes tasty, and sometimes not, marking them as specially prepared ingredients that they coincidentally killed the right way.
At that time, Toriko knew Komatsu was the one who led them to the Cola due to his talent for being liked by ingredients, and tells Zebra to trust in him. Komatsu asked them to follow his cooking instructions. At 73% and 66% of Toriko’s and Zebra’s calories left, respectively, they jump into the fight, with Komatsu as their instructor.
