The Friday Monkey (フライデーモンキー Furaidēmonkī) is a peculiar yellow primate that is known for its cowardliness. When this monkey was first discovered long ago, it was on a Friday, hence the name.
Anatomy[]
Friday Monkeys are small, hairless, bipedal primates with yellow-colored wrinkly skin and can grow to a length of 1 meter and can weigh at least 25 kilograms when fully grown. They have notably long arms but rather short legs, and their ears seem to resemble pointed fish-like fins. They have large pink lips with two pointed fangs sticking out of their mouths, large nostrils and large yellow eyes with slit red pupils.
Behavior[]
They are cowardly beasts that live together in groups and spend their lives in hiding in caves and rarely emerge. If driven out of their homes either due to a food shortage or by a strong creature invading their habitat (or both), they will converge to an isolated area where other creatures are less likely to reach them, such as bits of land or rocks in an isolated body of water.
Powers and Abilities[]
Friday Monkeys are cowardly and weak creatures with no way to defend themselves and simply live secluded lives in order to survive.
Uses[]
The meat of the Friday Monkey is not at all tasty and it is barely edible, as such it has no value as a food product. However, some animal enthusiasts are very fond of these cowardly little primates and love to keep them as pets and a single Friday Monkey can fetch a price of 60,000 yen.
History[]
Galala Gator Arc[]
Friday Monkeys are first seen by Toriko and Komatsu standing on top of rocks in the middle of the ocean while they are headed to the Baron Archipelago on Tom's ship. Toriko finds this quite strange since Friday Monkeys never left the safety of their cave.
Variations[]
In the video game series, the Friday Monkey is shown to have a variety of different subspecies:
- Albino Friday (アルビノフライデー Arubinofuraidē): Known as Friday Monkey Endemic Species (フライデーモンキー固有種 Furaidēmonkī Koyū-shu) in Toriko: Gourmet Survival.
- Cook Cap Friday (コックキャップフライデー Kokkukyappufuraidē): Known as Friday Monkey Rare Species (フライデーモンキー希少種 Furaidēmonkī Kishō-shu) in Toriko: Gourmet Survival.
- Fresh Friday (フレッシュフライデー Furesshufuraidē): In Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2.
- Rock Friday (ロックフライデー Rokkufuraidē): In Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2.
Anime and Manga Differences[]
- In the Toriko Jump Special, Friday Monkeys are colored with blue eyes and black pupils instead of yellow with red pupils.
Appearances in Other Media[]
Toriko Jump Special[]
In the Toriko Jump Special which is an adaptation of the Galala Gator Arc, the Friday Monkeys appear with the same role as in the manga where they are spotted by Toriko.
Toriko: Gourmet Survival[]
Friday Monkeys appear in Toriko: Gourmet Survival for the PSP, along with a new assortment of subspecies. They appear as common enemies on Megamori Island where they will usually be seen together in groups. Uncharacteristically, they are hostile towards the player and mainly attack by using their claws. They are one of the weakest enemies in the game.
Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2[]
Friday Monkeys appear again in Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2, where they look and behave exactly like the first game. Friday Monkeys and Cook Cap Fridays can be found in Table Prairie, and Albino Fridays and Rock Fridays can be found in Konamon Desert.
Toriko: Gourmet Monsters[]
Friday Monkeys appear as enemies and tamable animals in Toriko: Gourmet Monsters where they can be fought and caught in the Baron Archipelago.
Toriko: Ultimate Survival[]
In Toriko: Ultimate Survival, Friday Monkeys are relatively the same as they were in Gourmet Survival but with updated graphics. All of the previous subspecies from the previous games reappear in the game as well as a new subspecies known as the Fresh Friday. Friday Monkeys reside in the Spring Area of Four Seasons Island, Albino Fridays reside in the Summer Area, Chef Cap Fridays and Rock Fridays reside in the Fall Area, and Fresh Fridays reside in the Winter Area.
