[v · t · e]

The Galala Gator (ガララワニ Gararawani) is a behemoth-like reptile beast that resides in the Baron Archipelago and is at the very top of the ecosystem. Though its species propagation capacity is limited, it makes up for it with a fierce attitude for survival. Some even live well beyond 300 years of age. Until recent years, there was no way to capture one besides hunting it down, but the IGO has been successful in producing clones. They could go into mass production![1][2]

It is Zongeh's Main Course in his Full Course Menu.[3]

Its overall appearance resembles that of a normal alligator, though it is much bigger (larger than an elephant) and has eight legs and red skin (green in the OVA), with two rows of sharp, yellow spikes that go down its tough, scaly, back, much like his claws. It also has green eyes that tend to glow in the dark. Its teeth are white and sharp, protruding out of its mouth.

Galala Gator mouth full of leeches OVA

The Galala Gator's mouth full of leeches.

It is a vicious and voracious creature that will eat anything that catches its eye, and once it chooses its prey, it will not let it escape. A Galala Gator that grows up without knowing stronger opponents will not know fear. This can be unfortunate for it; should it encounter opponents that far out-power it, it will not know that it is out-matched and will recklessly go into battle without a second thought. The Galala Gator can also form a symbiotic relationship with Baron Leeches by letting them reside in its mouth and in exchange use their wounding abilities to track down prey.

Powers and Abilities[]

Garara tail attack

Tail attack by a Galala Gator.

It is a powerful beast with impeccable strength and size that will continue to grow as it ages. It is also very agile, able to leap a fair distance to ambush prey and deliver fast and successive chomps at its opponent. Its bite and jaw power is also incredibly ferocious; it can easily pick a clean part of its prey's body in an instant.

The 300-year-old Galala Gator utilizes a colony of Baron Leeches in its mouth to assist it in hunting down its prey, similar to real-life komodo dragons using bacteria in their mouths to track their prey.[4]

As Food[]

Stone grilled Galala Gator meat.

A typical gator's flesh tastes like chicken, but a very old Galala Gator's flesh is said to taste more like a high-quality sirloin steak. Its meat is coated with a sweet and delicious layer of frost-like fat that shines, and according to Toriko, seems to look like meat made from jewels that releases a savory flow of flavor upon being consumed. It can be cooked over a fire, but grilling it truly brings out the flavor and helps keep all the flavor and juices from escaping.

Galala Gator Arc[]

Komatsu approaches Toriko about capturing the Galala Gator for a party. They arrive at the Baron Archipelago, where the beast resides, only to find all beasts chased out of their habitat; the beast has an increased appetite and is eating everything around, beasts and habitats included. Before night, a Baron Leech bites Komatsu, causing him to bleed, and at night, while they are eating, a Swamp Snake comes out of the water, dead, with a huge bite decapitation, marking an abnormally-sized Gator. The Gator sweeps the snake into the water and comes out. Toriko deduces the Gator uses the Baron Leeches to locate and track its prey, which Toriko and Komatsu are a part of since setting foot on the island, back when Komatsu got bitten. He concludes that this gigantic Gator must have lived around 300 years, rendering its capture level to 8, not 5. The Gator screams throw Komatsu out of the field and start a fight with Toriko. The beast seems a tough match at first, and that leads Toriko to get serious, praising the beast's strength and unleashing his own. After using Intimidation and Fork, Toriko finally decapitates it with Knife. News of the Gator's death reaches Starjun through Joejoe. Toriko and Komatsu eat the whole Gator, ignoring the request from Komatsu for the party due to how tasty its meat was. In the end, Toriko refuses to add it to his Full Course Menu.

Puffer Whale Arc[]

While on the train to the Puffer Whale cave, Toriko and Komatsu meet up with Zongeh and his cronies. Zongeh brags that the Galala Gator is his Full Course's main dish, though he admits that the one he caught was a newborn and therefore wasn't nearly as tasty as an adult or the one that Toriko had slain.[3]

Regal Mammoth Arc[]

Mansam invites Toriko and Komatsu to the Gourmet Coliseum to watch the beast-battle events, and in the Coliseum, a Garara Gator is fighting with a Troll Kong. The fight seems even at first, but ultimately the Troll Kong wins.[5]

GOD Arc[]

At Toriko and Rin's wedding reception, it was served as a Side along Jewel Meat of an End Mammoth steak with Meteor Garlic on top.

In the video game series, the Galala Gator is shown to have a variety of different subspecies:

Anime and Manga Differences[]

  • While red in the manga, the Galala Gator is green in the OVA.
  • The OVA version of this hunt shows Toriko using the 3-Hit Nail Punch to blow it into pieces instead of using his Knife to decapitate it.
  • In the anime version, the hunt is designed to be less gruesome, and decapitation is not shown, but instead, Toriko uses Knife on it, presumably breaking its neck, rather than a full-fledged beheading.

Appearances in Other Media[]

Toriko Jump Super Anime Tour Special 2009[]

In this adaptation of the Galala Gator Arc, the gator's role is the same as in the anime and manga; however, the fight between it and Toriko is extended and even becomes more brutal as Toriko instead of decapitating it, blows it into bloody bits with his 3-Hit Nail Punch.

The "Balala Gator" in the Gintama manga.

The Galala Gator was parodied in the fellow Shonen Jump manga and anime series Gintama, where it pretty much resembled its original design (with the exception of two horns and having the "G" in its name replaced with a "B"). It appeared in Chapter 443 and Episode 278 of Gintama, where it was a beast obtained by Yagyuu Kyuubei for Seita to hunt on his own, however, his encounter with it ended quite painfully. The Balala Gator was later killed and eaten by Kagura. Its appearance here mimicked its first appearance in Gourmet 2 of Toriko.

The Galala Gator has been featured in a large assortment of merchandise, housing miniature figurines, keychains, stickers, collectibles, video games, trading cards, and even a large scale toy action figure, one of the few beasts to receive such an honor.
