The Hellboros (ヘルボロス Heruborosu), also known as "Ice Hell's Sleeping Ruler", was a legendary beast that once ruled over the frozen continent of Ice Hell as its dominant predator long ago. It is the only named ingredient among the countless ancient creatures that serve to make the stock for the original Century Soup.
Anatomy[]
It is a gigantic pale-skinned creature with a mostly irregular body shape that partially resembles that of a sauropod. It has a large growth atop its body from which many heads grow. On its front, two heads also grow, and on its backside has another head growing which serves as a tail. It has at least sixteen visible heads.
Behavior[]
It is a vicious and violent creature that will devour any living thing in sight without mercy. Even if a creature is of greater strength than itself, it will not be deterred and will continue to attack relentlessly. The last one in Ice Hell was particularly vicious and voracious due its 100 years being frozen without food. The Hellboros evolved for the sole purpose of eating, even losing its eyes along the way and having to rely on pit organs to track its prey. Greedy and ferocious, it will consume everything and anything, cementing its place on the top of the food chain.
Powers and Abilities[]
It can regenerate severed heads at great speed, demonstrated in its fight with the Parasite Emperor. It also showed its huge amount of power since it was able to fight equally with the Parasite Emperor (which has a capture level of 81), having displayed great physical strength and endurance despite the fact that it hadn't eaten in ages. It is also very swift at catching its prey, as shown when it quickly devoured both Barrygamon and Bogie Woods in an instant.
Uses[]
As Food[]
The meat of the Hellboros is apparently considered too foul for human consumption and thus has no value as food; however, it could produce a special soup stock ingredient while it was frozen known as "Hell Broth" which served as one of the key ingredients in the original Century Soup.
Other Uses[]
Its poop appears to hold some sort of value as Teppei tries to offer some to Zongeh as a reward for his aid in their escape; however, Zongeh rejects it quickly, so its actual use and worth is unknown.[2]
History[]
Past[]
One hundred years ago, "Knocking Master" Jiro deeply sedated this ruler of Ice Hell.[1]
Century Soup Arc[]
The beast is rediscovered in Ice Hell by Zongeh and his group much to their horror, but as it turns out, the beast is frozen in ice. Teppei in disguise soon appears and takes a closer look at the frozen beast,[3] and because of his duty as a Saiseiya and realizing the havoc that would soon befall Ice Hell because of the Gourmet Corp.'s pursuit of the Century Soup, he revives the Hellboros, fulfilling his duty and ensuring a possible back-up plan should the Gourmet Corp. succeed.
After the brutal battle between Toriko and Tommyrod, Teppei soon arrives to finish Tommyrod off, which forces Tommy's accomplices, Barrygamon and Bogie Woods, to flee; however, they do not get far as they are soon confronted by none other than the Hellboros[4] who quickly devours the two villains in one gulp. Just then, Tommyrod releases his most powerful insect, the Parasite Emperor, to fight Teppei, but after a brief scuffle, the Hellboros soon appears and sets its attention on the Parasite Emperor and attempts to eat it. The two beasts engage in a titanic battle over Ice Hell;[5] however, the battle comes to an end when both the Hellboros and the Parasite Emperor are quickly killed by Alfaro, Gourmet Corp.'s Garcon, rescuing Barrygamon and Bogie and presumably bringing the Hellboros to extinction.[6]
Variations[]
In the video game series, the Hellboros is shown to have a variety of different subspecies:
- Deathboros (デスボロス Desuborosu): In Toriko: Ultimate Survival.
- Plantboros (プラントボロス Purantoboros): In Toriko: Ultimate Survival.
- Leafboros (リーフボロス Rīfuborosu): In Toriko: Ultimate Survival.
- Snowboros (スノーボロス Sunōborosu): In Toriko: Ultimate Survival.
Appearances in Other Media[]
Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2[]
In its video game debut, the Hellboros resides deep within the tundra region of the Gattsuki Continent.
Toriko: Gourmet Monsters[]
The Hellboros appears as one of the many tamable enemy beasts. It can be fought and captured in Ice Hell.
Toriko: Ultimate Survival[]
The Hellboros appears as one of the many species living on Four Seasons Island. The Hellboros appears in the island's tundra region as in previous games, however it now has numerous weaker and stronger subspecies which live in different habitats across the island.
Trivia[]
- It is unknown if there was ever more than one Hellboros present in Ice Hell or if this creature was one of a kind.
- However the Toriko video games show that more than one Hellboros does indeed exist and that it even has a few subspecies.
- It has characteristics of the mythological Hydra of Greek mythology (able to quickly regenerate any severed head).
- Hellboros was created by a fan in the Gunma Prefecture.
- The Hellboros's creator also created the Balbamoth.
