Melk the Second is the adopted daughter and apprentice of the famous knife sharpener, Melk the First and eventually succeeded his position and title after his retirement. She is also a close friend and ally of Komatsu and Toriko and is the creator of Komatsu's powerful Derous Knife.
Appearance[]
She is a beautiful pale-skinned young woman with straight black hair who has a slightly muscular frame. She often tends to dress in very manly working clothes to disguise her identity, however in the past she did tend to wear more effeminate clothing. She has a cross-shaped scar on her right cheek which she received when she was very young after wandering into her father's workshop. She wears a light-blue headband around her head which bears the emblem of two knifes on a whetstone.
Personality[]
She originally had little confidence about her abilities in sharpening, despite being noted as a prodigy by Melk the First. After Komatsu proved to her how good her knives were, she becomes confident in her abilities.
Powers and Abilities[]
As successor to Melk the First, she is the world's best sharpener and bladesmith, and her father claims that her skills are greater than even his own (though it is possible that he was referring to her talent alone, meaning he is still superior to her). Her potential in the field is such that even as a kid she succeeded in crafting a fine blade at the first try, much to Komatsu's surprise. Melk can create blades of unparalleled sharpness and her skills at repairing and sharpening are precise, quick and perfect. Her knives can easily penetrate through most materials with ease and her greatest work could cut a mountain range in half.
She can also fight using one of her knives with deadly accuracy and she can even take down creatures with their Capture Levels in the 20s. She is currently unable to handle higher Capture Level beasts such as the Warner Shark. One slash of her blade had about the same power as Toriko's Knife. However, her physical strength isn't higher than that of a normal human and she can be easily overpowered by the likes of Toriko.
Intimidation[]
Melk does not have any kind of Intimidation, but Toriko fells cuts all over his face just by getting close to her house due to her knives' astounding sharpness.[1]
Techniques[]
|
|||||||||||||||||||
Scale Cut (ウロコ斬り Uroko Giri): Melk used this technique to remove almost all of the scales on a Scale Kong from afar.[2] |
Equipment[]
- Grindstone Boots (砥石ブーツ Toishi Būtsu): Melk created boots that can be used like a grindstone to repair her knives if they get damaged in battle, as she did with hers when she dueled Toriko.[3] She gives a pair to Komatsu to sharpen his knives when they dull while in Gourmet World.[4]
- Grindstone Apron (砥石エプロン Toishi Epuron): Melk created an apron that can be used like a grindstone to repair her knives if they get damaged in battle or used while cooking an ingredient. She gives this to Komatsu to sharpen his knives when they dull while in Gourmet World.[4]
History[]
Background[]
She was adopted by Melk the First when he found her abandoned and crying in a forest. While most people are intimidated by the imposing and savage looking man, the baby could feel his true kindness and only giggled. She showed interest in knives at an early age but her father prohibited her from going near the workshop. The first time she snuck into the shop, some knives fell off the shelves and gave her two scars on her face. After that, her adopted father shows her the ways of sharpening knives, though she had to learn from sight, since the man was so quiet that she could not hear a thing he said. What the First thought were frequent hugs from his daughter were in fact the Seconds attempts to get close enough to hear him, though only managing to make out a low muttering.
Once her father had deemed her his equal in skill he left to create a knife that could prepare AIR now that he knew his daughter could take care of things while he was gone. Unfortunately, she did not hear his explanation and so did not know her fathers true thoughts of her or why he left and believed something horrible must have happened to him when he did not come back.
Melk Stardust Arc[]
She is first seen in the story claiming to be the original Melk, but soon reveals that she is the Second while the First left to finish his last work. Trying to protect her father's reputation, she takes on the sharpening requests that keep coming despite her father's absence.
While Toriko went to get the Melk Stardust, she and Komatsu stay in the workshop. She shows Komatsu her sharpening techniques but she is very doubtful of herself. She is obsessed with strength and believes it to be the signature of Melk, although she already had the talent and techniques necessary for becoming a top class artisan. She is very sensitive about this and even picked a fight with Toriko when he claimed that she was too weak to supply materials. She even tries to hide her womanhood to suppress her weakness within herself and become worthy of the Second Generation. Eventually she gains the confidence needed to become a first-class sharpener with the help of Komatsu, who prepared a meal with the knives she made, explaining to her that this could only be done with those knives. Later when Toriko returned and informed her of her fathers words and quiet condition she was both happy and annoyed.
After Toriko came back with the Melk Stardust, she made Komatsu a knife with Derous's fang. She said that this would be her first work as the "True" Second Generation and the knife carries her only signature ever made.
Autumn Break Arc (Filler)[]
Melk sends Toriko and Komatsu a note via Pochiko telling them that she will be participating in Gourmet Service Competition to win the Diamond Crystal Berry and asks them to help her to acquire it as she will need it to prepare a special knife for chef Lulubhu.
Bubble Fruit Arc[]
She is one of the people disgusted by the powerful odor of the Dodurian Bomb when it fell off of its branch.
Cooking Festival Arc[]
Melk is seen on her way to the Cooking Festival and is later seen in the stands cheering for Komatsu. She later witnesses the arrival of the Bishokukai, much to her shock.
AIR Arc[]
A year and a half later, she was one of the many people who went to the World Kitchen to say their goodbyes to the Four Heavenly Kings and Komatsu before they set off to Gourmet World.
PAIR Arc[]
When the delivery of Gourmet World ingredients finally came into the Human World, Melk joined up with many of the Human World's skilled personnel who journeyed to Gourmet World in order to assist the Heavenly Kings. When everyone arrived in Area 8's Hex Food World, they became distressed when the Daruma Hermit told them that they had no Safety Monsters capable of traversing water to take them to Area 7 where the Heavenly Kings and Komatsu were as they only had beasts capable of traveling on land. This greatly distressed Melk the Second who was worried for Komatsu's safety. Luckily Nono reminded everyone of her freezing abilities which would allow her to freeze water into a solid surface that would allow their safety monster to reach Area 7. With their faith of reaching the Kings restored, the party prepared to leave for Area 7.
After a long trip, the support group finally arrived in Area 7 where they were reunited with the Four Heavenly Kings, while Melk and Nono were reunited with Komatsu who were completely shocked and perplexed by Komatsu's "female" body, however a nervous Komatsu quickly explained to the girls that the change was only due to PAIR's unique properties. The group then joined the Kings and the Monkey Restaurant in their festivities while partaking of PAIR all night long. Eventually though, the group settled down to hear out tale of Kaka the Flavor Sage as she explained the Gourmet Cells' dark origin, the eventual end of the Earth and the mystery of ANOTHER. The group then witnessed as Kaka was taken by Joie's Appetite Demon before she could tell them about ANOTHER and were powerless to stop it. Luckily at that moment, Kuriboh arrived and explained the situation as well as the info about ANOTHER. With this information in hand, the group departed on Kuriboh's Turtloon and headed for the location of ANOTHER, Area 6.
ANOTHER Arc[]
After arriving in Area 6, the group met up with the Flavor Sage Jiji who shared with them even more information on Acacia's Full Course Menu and the locations of the other ingredients, and proceeded to divide up the group into teams to seek them out. Melk herself was placed on the main team with Komatsu in Area 6 to aid in the capture of ANOTHER.
GOD Arc[]
Melk attends Toriko and Rin's wedding.[5]
