Narcotic Ingredients (麻薬食材, Mayaku Shokuzai) are foodstuffs that either have extreme addictive effects, are harmful for the body, acts as a narcotic (that is used in a similar fashion to recreational drugs), fatal to consume or any combination of the four factors. Narcotic ingredients are typically used in a similar fashion to recreation drugs, where they are used to achieve a temporary high, some narcotic ingredients are also known to contain narcotic substances such as marijuana. Narcotic ingredients are heavily regulated by Gourmet Law and are generally illegal for trade and consumption, those found with or trading narcotic ingredients typically receive heavy punishments such as being sentenced to Honey Prison such as Rick. However, illegal channels for narcotic ingredients typically flourish in areas not regulated by Gourmet Laws such as the Jidal Kingdom. Currently, the Gourmet Yakuza, lead by Match, are trying to control and prevent the trade and consumption of narcotic ingredients. A sub-type of narcotic ingredients are poison ingredients or ingredients that contain lethal doses of poison with no way to detoxify and are generally fatal when consumed.
