The Sand Flower Fish is a large species of sandfish native to the deserts of Sand Garden. Its name is derived from the flower-like growth on its forehead.
Anatomy[]
It is a large sandfish resembling an anglerfish with a large, pink, rose-like flower on its head. It is quite large in size and heavy as well, with a body length of around 13 meters and a weight of at least 14 tons. Its skin is mostly a bright blue color and it has a light blue underbelly. It has small sharp teeth, small beady eyes, a large pointed dorsal fin, and smaller fins on its side.
Powers and Abilities[]
Being a sandfish, it is strong enough to "swim" through the rugged sands of deserts as though it were like water and can also survive the Sand Garden's intense heat without difficulty. Normally living in the cooler subterranean sands of the weltering desert labyrinth, the Sandflower Fish only surfaces to hunt. More sneaky than aggressive, this fish only attacks creatures exhausted by the intense heat of Desert Labyrinth or mesmerized by the faux flower growing from its head. If its surprise attack fails, it's easily killed.
As Food[]

Its meat is edible and can be eaten raw and prepared into a fine sashimi, making it an excellent meal if out in the desert with low provisions.
Its blood can also be consumed and used to rehydrate one's self from the intense heat of the sun.
History[]
Mellow Cola Arc[]
A Sand Flower Fish was killed and eaten by Zebra and Toriko while they were traveling through Sand Garden. To survive the intense heat, they needed to drink its blood as well in order to rehydrate themselves for the long journey through the desert.
Anime and Manga Differences[]
- In the anime, rather than simply eat the fish's meat straight from the bone, Toriko and Zebra cut up its meat and prepared it into a fine sashimi.
- In the anime, no mention of them drinking the blood is made.
Appearances in Other Media[]
Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2[]
In Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2 for the PSP, the Sand Flower Fish appears in the Konamon Desert region as a huntable enemy. A subspecies of Sand Flower Fish also appears in the Table Prairie and is known as the Cauliflower Fish due to that it has a cauliflower growing on its head rather than a flower.
Toriko: Gourmet Monsters[]
In Toriko: Gourmet Monsters for the 3DS, the Sand Flower Fish appears as an enemy in the Sand Garden. It is also a tamable beast in the game and can be trained and used for Gourmet Royale beast bouts.
