Silverbacks are elder Troll Kongs and those who survive to this age end up becoming the leaders of their kind.
Anatomy[]
When Troll Kong's reach this age their anatomy remains pretty much the same, however their hair becomes white and notably longer and their once pink skin becomes purple and wrinkly. It is also larger than younger Troll Kongs and can reach a height of 6 meters and can even weigh more at 3.5 tons.
Behavior[]
Silverback are more intelligent than younger Troll Kongs and have more experience, making them excellent leaders for their kind. Because of their age and experience they can be quite cautious and will not immediately engage an enemy unless it is necessary, otherwise it will simply let its Troll Kong underlings take care of enemies and prey while it watches from afar. When engaged they can be rather intimidating. Silverbacks can also be made susceptible to the effects of Battle Fragrance which makes them more aggressive and more willing to fight enemies head on, however due to its high intelligence it can resist the mindless rage inducing effects of the Battle Fragrance to an extent as it will still be able to comprehend when it is outmatched by a greater foe and will attempt to flee.
Powers and Abilities[]
Silverbacks are stronger, more intelligent and more experienced than younger Troll Kongs and as such have excellent leadership skills for their species and can apparently guide their actions if need be. It has a greater sense of danger than normal Troll Kongs and knows how to avoid it, but when faced with an opponent it will not flee and will battle while maintaining an intimidating presence.
As Food[]
Like younger Troll Kongs their meat is tough and inedible, with their brains being the more desired food among aficionados. However, their brains are even more delicious than that of a young Troll Kong's and can fetch an even higher price, with just 100 grams being worth 7,000 yen.
History[]
Rainbow Fruit Arc[]
After Toriko and Komatsu ventured into the 8th Biotope to acquire the Rainbow Fruit, they were confronted by the Troll Kongs that dwelled within who were being led by their hidden Silverback leader. The first one was easily incapacitated by Toriko using a Knocking Gun, however the creature puked over Toriko which caused his scent to be masked by the weakling Troll Kong's scent, making it impossible for him to simply intimidate the Troll Kongs into submission. After taking at many more Troll Kongs, Komatsu noticed the presence of the Silverback high up on a cliff and pointed this out to Toriko in hopes of subduing the leader in order to subdue the entire pack. Upon reaching the Silverback, it was not pleased with Toriko's presence and prepared to eat him, luckily at that moment rain began to fall which away the scent of weakling Troll Kong from Toriko and allowing him to intimidate the Silverback into submission and thus taming it as well as the rest of the Troll Kong band. The Silverback then allowed Toriko to take a single Rainbow Fruit from there tree.
Puffer Whale Arc[]
The Troll Kongs of the 8th Biotope were slaughtered to near-extinction by the Gourmet Corp. during their infiltration of the Biotope in order to procure the Rainbow Fruit. The incident was soon reported to the IGO's greatly shocked Board of Directors, along with the reports of other biotopes having their contained animals suffer a similar fate. It is presumed that the Silverback leader met the same fate as the rest of its kind.
Regal Mammoth Arc[]
A Silverback, along with a Gerold, a Growlrus and an Elephantsaurus were used in a Gourmet Coliseum match against a Battle Wolf, however it and the other beasts were killed by a drugged out Devil Serpent in the coliseum which had accidentally been sprayed with Battle Fragrance by Rin a few moments earlier.
Anime and Manga Differences[]
- The anime shows the Silverback as being at least three times larger than a young Troll Kong, while in the manga it is only somewhat bigger.
