The Swamp Snake (沼蛇 Numahebi) is a very large snake beast native to bogs and swamp environments, and most notably inhabits the Baron Archipelago. Its Capture Level is mostly due to its difficulty to locate.
Anatomy[]
It is a species of giant gray-skinned snake with a white underbelly that can grow to be over 20 meters in length and can weigh over 9 tons. It has dark red eyes, a forked tongue and very sharp teeth.
Behavior[]
It is a cautious creature and rarely surfaces. It prefers to live in foggy waters or bogs and hunt for weaker prey.
Powers and Abilities[]
Despite its sub-par fighting skills on land, while it is underwater it is a far better hunter against weak creatures. However it is still no match for experienced and deadly creatures, especially those far above its level. Despite this, it is said that not even a non-300 year old Galala Gator can take it on if it is underwater.
As Food[]
Although a type of snake, some parts of it are fatty (like an eel), making it a popular meat for grilling. 100 grams of its meat can be sold for 7,000 yen.
History[]
Galala Gator Arc[]
A Swamp Snake is first encountered by Toriko and Komatsu while they are in the Baron Bog searching for the 300-year-old Galala Gator that resides there. Upon seeing it leap out of the water Toriko readies himself while Komatsu cowers in fear. The Swamp Snake does not attack but simply falls to the ground near them and dies. Toriko takes a closer look at its lengthy body and finds an enormous bite mark apparently left by the Galala Gator, who ate chunk of the Swamp Snake's torso with ease.
Variations[]
In the video game series, the Swamp Snake is shown to have a variety of different subspecies:
- Lava Snake (溶岩蛇 ): Swamp Snake Endemic Species (沼蛇固有種 Numahebi Koyū-shu), in Toriko: Gourmet Survival, Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2, Toriko: Gourmet Monsters, and Toriko: Ultimate Survival.
- Float Snake (浮蛇 ): Swamp Snake Rare Species (沼蛇希少種 Numahebi Kishō-shu), in Toriko: Gourmet Survival, Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2, Toriko: Gourmet Monsters, and Toriko: Ultimate Survival.
- Sand Snake (砂蛇 Sunahebi): In Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2, Toriko: Gourmet Monsters, and Toriko: Ultimate Survival.
- Snow Snake (雪蛇 Yukihebi): In Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2, Toriko: Gourmet Monsters, and Toriko: Ultimate Survival.
Appearances in Other Media[]
Toriko Jump Super Anime Tour Special 2009[]
In this adaptation of the Galala Gator Arc, the Swamp Snake appears with the same role as in the manga where it jumps out of the water after having been bitten by the Galala Gator.
Toriko: Gourmet Survival[]
The Swamp Snake appears inhabiting certain shallow water areas on Megamori Island where it will rise up from the water and attack Toriko with bites, whipping its body about or use water-based attacks. There are also other stronger breeds of Swamp Snakes in the game such as the Specialized Top Swamp Snake (特上沼蛇 Toku Kaminuma hebi), which appears to be an amphibian variety of Swamp Snake with Axolotl-like traits and stronger water-based abilities, such as creating water cyclones.
Toriko: Gourmet Survival 2[]
Swamp Snakes appear as enemies along with a new assortment of subspecies. Swamp Snakes only appear in the wine rivers of the Table Prairie of the Gattsuki Continent and once killed will drop a cut of meat. Lava Snakes appear in Grill Valley in pools of lava. Snow Snakes appear in Freezer Ice Field and rise up from beneath the snow rather than from water or another liquid.
Toriko: Gourmet Monsters[]
Swamp Snakes appear as enemies and tamable animals where they can be fought and caught at the Baron Archipelago.
Merchandise[]
The Swamp Snake has been featured in some merchandise, such as in video games and on a trading card.
