Tylan (タイラン, Tairan), the Poison Cooking Specialist (毒料理専門, Doku Ryōri Senmon), is the greatest when it comes to the handling and preparation of poisons and poisonous ingredients. Because of this he is 19th in the World Gourmet Chef Rankings, making him one of the greatest chefs in the world. Out of the top thirty Gourmet Chefs, Tylan and Livebearer are the only two to come from non-IGO nations. He is the manager and owner of the specialty poison cuisine restaurant Nest of Poison.

Appearance

Tylan is a tall dark-skinned man who has several purple-colored scars on his face, with the largest one being nearly identical to the diamond emblem on his uniform and goes all the way down to his neck. He also sports a stubble and has black hair. His attire consists of a light purple-colored chef's uniform with a tall toque and chefs apron with a dark purple diamond-shaped emblem on it.

Personality

He is a serious, quiet, and calm man who can maintain his composure in even the most dire of situations. He only makes public appearances and talks when necessary as such as when he never shows his face until the entire human world was drenched with the highly toxic Green Rain to help everyone delay the effects. Because of his incredible knowledge and talent in detoxifying poisons, even considered to be a genius, he is highly intelligent. He is also very perceptive as he anticipated Gourmet Corp. would appear at the Cooking Festival and already knowing that the Ruler of Area 3 will not be a creature easy to approach due to the chosen team combination.

Powers and Abilities

Tylan is ranked 19th from the World Ranking. Like the rest of the high ranking chefs (the top 30 to be precise) he is most likely an ex-Gourmet Hunter and is strong enough to be considered difficult to be captured by Gourmet Corp. which is later proven as he is one of the chefs who stands at the forefront to confront Gourmet Corp. and battles against them for a while without any injuries to him. He can take down a Poison King in an instant, which is considered a high level super beast, marks another testament to his strength.

In Area 3 along with Coco, he confronts one of the strongest beings in gourmet world and ruler of the area: the Crow King, and after preparing ATOM he leaves mostly unfazed, though the bird and the rest of the 8 Kings had to leave in the middle of their confrontations to fight a more dangerous creature that had appeared.

Chef Skills

Being a master of Poison Cooking, he has unparalleled skill when it comes to preparing and detoxifying poisons and poisonous ingredients and can even delay the progress of toxins. His knowledge in the field is vast and he is considered a true genius. A testament of his great skill is that he knows the method to delay the effects of Green Rain, a Gourmet World-level weather condition that can kill people in an hour through massages. He is also able to make a Puffer Whale's poison sack edible. The greatest testament to his skill is the successful preparation of ATOM single-handedly, which is the most difficult dish to prepare alongside ANOTHER and GOD.

Because of these massive accomplishments, specifically the sole preparation of ATOM and can easily make a poison sack edible, it is safe to say that he has mastered top-class Food Honor and possibly hear voice of ingredients and have some sort of food luck.

Techniques

	Detox Knife (デトックスナイフ, Detokkusunaifu): Tylan quickly slashes his target with his kitchen knife. He used this technique on a group of Sand Hamsters.

History

Meteor Garlic Arc

The Gourmet Corp. had been planning to kidnap as many of the top 100 chefs as possible in their plan to invade the Gourmet World, however they realized that it would be more difficult to kidnap the higher-ranking chefs such as Tylan, as he and the other chefs listed alongside him are individuals of great fighting strength unlike the lowest ranked of the top 100.

Four Beast Arc

When it is clear that developing an antidote to the Four Beast's Green Rain is going to be a problem, Livebearer makes a call to Tylan before his arrival at the Gourmet Towers' knife buildings to help with the antidote. Once he arrives he overhears Komatsu's plan to try and find a way to make enough antidotes for the entirety of poisoned victims. Tylan volunteers to stall the Green Rain's poison while Komatsu develops a method to make the antidote easier to prepare in less time.

In the anime, he has more screen time as he is present alongside the other chefs waiting for Komatsu and again to cook the Four Beasts. Because he’s still there after giving the message to the civilians, it can be assumed that he has also helped with the production of the medicinal mochis instead of just disappearing right after as he was never shown in the chapter of the manga again.

Cooking Festival Arc

Tylan enters 16th in the stage of the Cooking Festival, after Mami. Later in the second bicycle part of the first event, Triathlon Cooking, he, like many other chefs, chooses the dangerous but short path. There he is able to show his strength by defeating Sand Hamsters with his Detox Knife technique. In the anime, he explained that he only knocked them out for a few minutes and removed their poison. He is able to pass the three preliminary events: Triathlon Cooking, Scale Death Cooking, and Entire Island Cooking. At the Championship Cooking, his opponent is Mami. In the anime, the preliminaries were shortened to 16 Chefs and he is against Apolo.

He predicted Gourmet Corp. would appear at the festival. When the battle with the Gourmet Corp. ensues, he appears at the forefront alongside the other strong chefs to confront them. While battling he then watches in horror at Livebearer's mutilation. Some minutes later he sides with Chiru and two Saiseiya against Scum Beasts able to use Food Pressure. He and Wabutora are surprised when Zebra uses his Sound Bazooka to eliminate the Nitros which in turn would destroy parts of the stadium.

AIR Arc

A year and a half later, he is one of the many people who goes to the World Kitchen to say their goodbyes to the Four Heavenly Kings and Komatsu before they set off to Gourmet World, and he and his fellow chefs promise to cook all the ingredients that they send.

PAIR Arc

When the delivery of Gourmet World ingredients finally comes into the Human World, Tylan joins up with many of the Human World's skilled personnel who journey to Gourmet World in order to assist the Heavenly Kings. When everyone arrives in Area 8's Hex Food World, they are told by the Daruma Hermit that the Heavenly Kings have already departed from the Area 8 and headed to Area 7, much to their disappointment. However the Daruma Hermit offers them their last remaining Safety Monster to help take the group to Area 7, the Crabbus.

ANOTHER Arc

After rendezvousing with JiJi, Tylan and Coco were the chosen pair to capture and prepare Acacia’s Full Course Drink, ATOM. While traveling through Area 3, Tylan and Coco notice the sky darken and giant feathers fall as the Crow King passes over them. After capturing and preparing the drink, Tylan and Coco encounter the rest of the group. With ANOTHER, NEWS, EARTH, and ATOM assembled, they split up the dishes and the group, with Tylan returning to the Human World.

GOD Arc

He appears at Toriko and Rin’s wedding to congratulate them and is later shown eating GOD.

• His scar is basically identical to his diamond-shaped emblem on his uniform
• In a special "Dream Combo" poll held for Volume 29.5 in which fans could vote for their favorite current or potential hunter/chef combo, Tylan and Coco were selected as a popular potential combo by the author who placed the combo as a number 1 ranker in compatibility, due to their shared affinity for poisons and similarity in personalities.
