Volcano Weathercocks are a species of bird beast native to the Wul Volcano region of the Northern Wul Continent.
Anatomy[]
Volcano Weathercocks are large birds with brightly-colored feathers that can be either around the size of a Magma Rat or a helicopter. The feathers on their back are a dark shade of red while the rest of their body has bright orange feathers. The edge of their wings have ruffled yellow feathers and the tips of their tail feathers are also yellow. On the top of their heads is a bit of yellow plumage which resembles a mohawk. They have large brown beaks filled with sharp teeth and small bulging yellow eyes with red pupils.
Behavior[]
They can feel changes in the wind and when this happens they ride the currents and migrate in the direction the wind is moving them in, however they never stray too far from the Wul Volcano region, unless they are driven out by a dangerous force.
Powers and Abilities[]
As stated above, Volcano Weathercocks can sense changes in the wind. They also appear to be naturally resistant to heat, being able to live in the warm environment of the Wul Volcano.
As Food[]
In the anime it is never revealed if they are edible, however in Toriko: Gourmet Battle, it is mentioned that their eggs are a delicacy can be made into a raw egg drink. Their wings can also be cooked to a golden brown. They're both very nutritious.
History[]
BB Corn Arc[]
They first appeared in Episode 21 of the anime, where a large flock of them and some Magma Rats were scared out of the Wul Volcano by Toriko and Grinpatch's power. The Volcano Weathercocks later started swarming Sunny's helicopter, thus slightly impeding its movement.
Anime and Manga Differences[]
These creature originally did not appear in the manga, and the scenes they were in were mostly filler.
Appearances in Other Media[]
Toriko: Bakushoku Gourmet Battle[]
A subspecies of Volcano Weathercock appears in the online game Toriko: Bakushoku Gourmet Battle, in the Northern Wul Continent. It looks like a regular Volcano Weathercock but it has a lilac body color.

Trivia[]
- Their faces bare a great deal of resemblance to the Top Hookbirds from the manga and may have been based on them, but mostly in appearance rather than size.
